Craving some keto crackers? Here’s how to make them at home in no time.

Are Crackers Keto-Friendly?

Traditional crackers are not keto-approved because they’re typically made with wheat flour or other high-carb grains, making them loaded with carbohydrates. Even a small serving can quickly kick you out of ketosis.

But the good news? You can easily make your own keto-friendly crackers at home using just a handful of low-carb ingredients. These homemade low carb crackers are the perfect substitute for store-bought cheddar crackers — crunchy, flavorful, and totally guilt-free.

They’re not only low in carbs, but also gluten-free, grain-free, and ideal for anyone following a keto or low-carb lifestyle. Plus, they taste so good, even non-keto eaters will enjoy them!

Ingredients for Keto Crackers

You’ll only need a few basic pantry staples to make these low carb keto crackers—and there’s a good chance you already have most of them on hand! Here’s what you’ll need, along with a few tips to get the best results:

  • Blanched Almond Flour – Use super-fine almond flour for the best texture. Almond meal can work in a pinch, but it may result in a denser, grainier cracker.
  • Cheddar Cheese – Freshly shredded cheddar works best here. Pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that prevent it from fully blending into the dough. Grate it at home for a smoother, more cohesive cracker dough.
  • Salt – Just a pinch! Since cheddar cheese is already salty, you won’t need much to enhance the flavor.
  • Water – A small amount of water helps bind the ingredients and form a smooth, pliable dough that’s easy to roll out.

These simple ingredients come together to create crispy keto crackers that are perfect for snacking, dipping, or serving on a low-carb charcuterie board.

How to Make Keto Crackers

Making homemade keto crackers is incredibly simple and super satisfying. This recipe is also versatile, so feel free to mix in your favorite herbs or spices like garlic powder, rosemary, paprika, or Italian seasoning to switch up the flavor.

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup easier.

Make the Cracker Dough

In a food processor, combine the almond flourshredded cheddar cheesesalt, and a little water. Pulse until the mixture forms a dough. If the dough looks too dry or crumbly, add an extra tablespoon of water at a time until it comes together smoothly.

Tip: You can also add herbs or spices at this stage for extra flavor.

Roll Out the Dough

Transfer the dough to a sheet of parchment paper. Place another sheet on top and use a rolling pin to roll it out into a thin rectangle about ⅛-inch thick. The thinner the dough, the crispier the crackers.

Cut into Squares

Remove the top sheet of parchment paper and use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into 1-inch squares. If you want uniform crackers, use a ruler to guide your cuts.

Bake Until Golden

Carefully transfer the parchment sheet with the cut dough onto the baking tray. Bake the crackers for 10–12 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Keep a close eye on them, as baking time may vary depending on your oven and the thickness of your dough.

Optional: Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes—they’ll crisp up even more as they cool!

Tips for the Best Keto Crackers

Want perfectly crispy, flavorful low-carb almond flour crackers every time? These simple tips will help you nail this recipe:

  • Roll the dough evenly and thin – If the crackers are too thick, they’ll take longer to bake and may end up soft instead of crunchy. Aim for about ⅛-inch thickness for the best texture.
  • Use fresh, high-quality cheese – Grating your own cheddar from a block gives better flavor and texture than pre-shredded cheese, which often contains additives that interfere with melting.
  • Add your favorite seasonings – Customize the flavor by mixing in herbs or spices like garlic powdersmoked paprikaonion powdereverything bagel seasoning, or even Italian herbs.
  • Don’t overbake – The crackers will continue to crisp up as they cool, so remove them from the oven when the edges start turning golden brown.
  • Cool completely before serving or storing – Let the almond flour crackers cool on the baking sheet for 10–15 minutes to firm up and develop their full crunch. This also prevents sogginess if you’re storing them for later.
  • Store in an airtight container – Once fully cooled, place the crackers in a sealed jar or container. They’ll stay crispy for up to 5 days at room temperature.
  • Re-crisp if needed – If the crackers soften over time, you can pop them back in a 300°F (150°C) oven for 3–5 minutesto bring the crunch back.

Optional Mix-Ins

This is just a basic recipe for almond flour crackers, but feel free to customize them to make them even more delicious:

  • Everything but the Bagel seasoning – top your crackers with this incredible everything bagel seasoning.
  • Dried herbs– mix in Italian seasoning, dried rosemary, or oregano for the best flavor.
  • Garlic – adds such a great depth of flavor.
  • Nuts and Seeds for some extra crunch.

How To Store Low Carb Crackers

  • Room temperature – You can store these crackers in a sealed container at room temperature. They will stay fresh for up to five days.
  • Freezer – These keto crackers can be frozen for up to two months in a ziplock bag. Then, reheat in the oven after thawing overnight in the refrigerator.

To figure out a serving size, divide the total number of crackers by 6. Hope this helps!
