While baking these chicken wings in the oven is an excellent alternative to frying them, the Air Fryer version is quicker and cleaner. They are ready in less than 30 minutes and so easy to make. Perfect for any low carb diet such as a keto or paleo diet, these buffalo wings have less than 1g carb per serving.

I add no potato starch or wheat flour, but they are still crispy! You can use fresh or frozen chicken wings, a few of your favorite spices. I’ll show you how to make the easiest low carb buffalo sauce. Trust me! You’ll never know these are not deep fried wings.

I made these air fried wings every two days since I got this fantastic XL Air Fryer for Christmas from my family. My mother has one since summer and uses it every day to cook meat, vegetables, burgers. Almost anything you think of can be cooked in an Air Fryer – even cakes.

These wings are perfect for the Game Day Parties, Superbowl or any other family & friends gathering. Have them during a usual weekday when you need to cook something fast and delicious.

  • Seasonings
  • Baking powder (Use aluminum-free baking powder to avoid the bitter taste)

Low Carb Keto Wings Buffalo Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions for crispy chicken wings in the Air Fryer

Let’s stop talking and get straight to cooking. Here’s all you have to do:

  1. Using a sharp knife cut about 10 whole chicken wings and discard the wing tips. You’ll end up having 20 wing pieces: 10 drumettes and 10 flaps.
  2. Put the wings to a medium bowl and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder.
  3. Time for the SECRET INGREDIENT that will make the wings extremely crispy: baking powder (NOT BAKING SODA!!!).
  4. Using your hands massage the seasonings and baking powder into the chicken wings skin. This way all the wings are well coated in spices.
  5. Place the wings into a single layer in the basket and insert it into the Air Fryer.
  6. Set the air fryer to 340F / 170C and cook for 13 minutes.
  7. When the time is up, increase the temperature to 400F and cook for another 13 minutes.
  8. While the wings are cooking, make the buffalo sauce. In a bowl, combine the hot sauce (sugar-free for keto & low carb), melted butter, paprika, cayenne powder, garlic powder. Set aside.
  9. After the wings are done, cover them with buffalo sauce and serve. Enjoy!

Serving suggestion: Serve them with blue cheese dip, celery sticks, cucumber slices, or keto tortilla chips.

Chicken wings come in different sizes, so if your wings are larger increase the cooking time with about 5 minutes or until they look crispy and the meat gets easily off the bone.

Crispy Chicken Wings Tips

Can you use frozen chicken wings in an Air Fryer?Yes, you can cook frozen wings in an Air Fryer and get the same crispiness. Increase the initial cook time with 5 minutes at 330F ( 18 minutes total), before increasing the temperature at 390F. This will allow the wings to defrost and get crispy.

How long to air fry chicken wings? Chicken Wings take about 30 minutes to prepare in the Air Fryer.

Make sure you are using BAKING POWDER, not BAKING SODA. We use baking powder to change the ph of the skin which will make the wings very crispy. Here you can read the science (chemical reactions) behind using baking powder for crispy chicken wings.

OVEN INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat the oven to 450F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a wire rack inside.
  • Season the chicken wings and sprinkle baking powder. Toss them together until well coated.
  • Arrange the wings on the rack for 50-60 minutes, flipping them halfway to the baking process. Cook until they look crispy and golden.
  • Coat the wings with the buffalo sauce and serve hot with cheese dressings, ranch dressing, and celery or cucumber sticks.
